Dear Readers,

Here's one more reason to dump Alberto Gonzales:

My wife's and my civil liberties were violated the evening of November 25th, 2005 when our then-Congressman Randall "Duke" Cunningham was given preferential treatment by the police after he tried to commit suicide (and murder) by smashing his car head-on at high speed into the one I was driving.  Avoiding him was not easy; in the end he even clipped the rear of my car, doing about $2,000 in damage.  But undoing the cover-up has so far proven to be impossible.

I didn't recognize Cunningham the night he did it, but I realized the cops had an attitude problem right away.  I recognized the assailant the following Monday when he appeared on television, resigned from Congress, and confessed to bribery charges.  Cunningham is currently in jail, serving an 8+ year sentence on those charges.

In early 2006 I sent former U.S. Attorney Carol Lam a letter describing what happened that night.

The obstruction of justice in our case has had profound and disturbing effects, violating numerous civil rights.  Evidence has been lost or destroyed, timely investigations were not done, and countless promises have been broken.  Just about everyone who might have any inkling about our case has ALREADY resigned, been transferred, or been fired.  I suspect that's because it stinks, it's illegal, and they know it.

The original cover-up and corruption in our case may have been a local problem, but the failure of the DoJ to investigate it properly appears to be a decision made at the highest levels of this Administration.  I believe Alberto Gonzales was directed -- illegally -- by the White House to stop any investigation into my complaint.

Sincerely,

Russell "Ace" Hoffman
